Travel

Travel broadens the mind and expands one's outlook on life. My travels began before I was born having crossed the Atlantic a couple of time while in utero. I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. See, I am an exotic creature already. From SA, I travelled to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) with my parents. We saw Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls in definitely worth a trip. We also walked across the border to Zambia and had afternoon tea with monkeys running around the cafe.

Spain

If you want to jump directly to photographs without my endless verbiage click these links:

Spain is a complex and interesting country. I have been there four times over the years. In 1972 I visited Madrid and Toledo with my mother, aunt and uncle. In 1993, I visited Barcelona and Madrid travelling by train from France and the Netherlands. In 1997, my close buddy "David Grande and I went to the Costa Blanca and Costa Brava by car from Barcelona. And in November 2001, we went rented a car out of Madrid and travelled to Toledo, La Coruņa (pronounced Corunya), and Burgos.

Spain has several regions, local cultures and languages: The center, Castille & Leon and La Mancha, consists largely of "the Meseta" a high, dry plateau where cereal crops and livestock are raised. The main towns are Madrid in the center and Zaragoza in the east. In the northwest is the region of Galicia (Gallego) with towns of La Coruņa and Santiago de Campostela. La Coruņa is a busy, commercial town with a large port and oil refinery. It sits on a small peninsula with the port on the east side and a beach on the west side. The old town is quite pretty.
